Kitchen Renovation

The kitchen was the first major reno we did inside the house.  It all started very innocently, when we moved in the appliances were between 30 and 40 years old.  They worked but were somewhat unreliable so we decided that perhaps it was time to upgrade them.

The first problem we ran into was the size of the doors to the old house.  The outside door into the laundry area was a small 28″ interior door.  There was also a 28″ hollow interior door at the top of an old set of curved concrete stairs in the corner of the room.  It was quickly apparent that getting the old appliances out would be difficult and there was no possible way the new ones were going into the kitchen.  Our only option was to open the two walls so the appliances could be moved in and out.

We replaced the outside door with a new 36″ exterior door, completely removed the wall between the laundry room and the kitchen and we extended the kitchen into the laundry area by 5 feet.

At this point it became apparent we were remodelling the entire kitchen so we got to work planning our new room.  We used SweetHome3D to the modelling and it proved invaluable.
